General Information: What We Are

VT KnowledgeWorks assists in the planning, launch, and growth of technology-based enterprises at the Virginia Tech Corporate Research Center in Blacksburg, Virginia.

We provide a comprehensive mix of services carefully designed to reduce risk in a systematic manner by nurturing core business competencies within each Member company, helping them maintain strategic focus, minimizing administrative overhead, and supporting their executive leadership.

Our Members typically fall into one of three categories: start-ups; spin-outs; and ramp-ups. Start-ups, of course, are fresh companies, newly formed specifically to address some particular marketplace opportunity. A prosperous company may spin-out a department, a division, or a technology to an independent enterprise, to provide an environment more conducive to entrepreneurial activity. And, finally, a struggling company may re-focus to gather fresh momentum for a breakout.

Organizationally, we are a division of the Virginia Tech Corporate Research Center, a for-profit subsidiary of the Virginia Tech Foundation.
